Nebraska Board of Nursing


Board of Nursing Nebraska is a part of NE Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health Licensure Unit and located in Lincoln, NE.

The Board is governed by the Nurse Practice Act and Law, and authorized to regulate minimum and uniform nursing practice and nursing education standards, and competency evaluation of the practicing licensee for the safeguard and protection of the public health, safety, and welfare

The composition of Board comprises of Twelve Board members, who represent nursing profession, nurse educator, nurse administrator and public. Of the Of the Twelve Board members, 8 appointed members represent Registered Nurse Member, 2 Licensed Practical Nurses and 2 members are appointed from Public. The Governor appoints all Board members for a serving term of 4 years.

Eight appointed Registered Nurse Board members include:

One practical nurse educator
One associate degree or diploma nurse educator
One baccalaureate nurse educator
Two nursing service administrators
Two staff nurses
One advanced practice registered nurse.

It is also necessary that 3 to 5 members must be appointed from each congressional district. Each appointed member must be a bona fide resident of the representing congressional district for a minimum period of one year prior to the time of the appointment.

Further, the Nurse Practice Act is also specific that the appointed member represents acute care, long-term care, and community-based care.

Board of Nursing NE is empowered with following Board Rules & Regulations by the Law and Nurse Practice Act:

Set nursing practice and nursing education standards.
Issue or decline advisory opinions on nursing practice
Information on RN & LPN Practice
Approve nursing education programs and schools meeting the standards as prescribed by Nurse Practice Act
Maintain a Nursing Data
Establish standards, rules and regulations for the requirements of nursing practice, training or competency evaluation, and nursing supervision.
Form alliance or partnership with licensing exam agencies.
Promote standards of the practice to safeguard and protect health, safety, and welfare of the MO citizens
Administer the provisions of LPN-Certified Practice Act and the Nurse Licensure Compact.
