Board of Nursing Wisconsin

Board of Nursing Wisconsin is a part of Department of Regulation and Licensing and is a state regulatory agency governed by legislative Chapter 441 and located at Madison, WI. The Board has been established to regulate the licensing and practice of Advanced Practice Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse.

The board represents members from both nursing profession and public. The board comprises of 9 Board Members representing two Licensed Practical Nurse Members, five Registered Nurse Members and two Members represent Public.

The Board has also been entrusted with responsibilities oversee setting of minimum practice standards for Registered nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses and to enforce and clarify the scope of practice for Practicing nursing professionals.

The Board also implements the specific regulations for violations of nursing practice, unprofessional behavior or misconduct and actions of the Board for the violation include limiting, suspending, revoking or denying license renewal. As a disciplinary action, the Board may also reprimand a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Impaired Professionals are eligible for Professional Assistance Procedure (PAP) for saving the professionals career and even life of such professionals.

In addition, the Board is also authorized to set the minimum standards for the schools and their clinical units and facilities that educate professional nurses and licensed practical nurses. The Board offer monitoring and periodical surveys, assist schools and initiate rules and policies to improve accredited list of professional nurses or licensed practical nurses.

The Board of Nursing Wisconsin with the assistance of Department of Regulation and Licensing regulates the provisions of legislative Chapter for   prevent unauthorized persons from professional nursing practice by promoting the professional education of registered nurses graduates through the creation of scholarships.
