Board of Nursing Maryland is located at Baltimore, Maryland and is state regulatory agency founded by the law to protect health and welfare of the Maryland Public by regulating the professional practice of Nurses in MD.
MD Nursing Board Features
The MD Board of Nursing comprised of 13 Board members, who represent various professional nursing field, education, administration and consumers. Out of 13 appointed members, 8 represent registered nurses, 3 licensed practical nurses and 2 consumer members. The members are appointed by the Governor and the nursing members of the Board are appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of various nursing and educational organizations.
The appointed 8 registered nurses constitute of one advance practice nurse rotates among different specialties, one baccalaureate nursing educator with a MS in Nursing or education; One an associate degree nursing educator with, a MS in Nursing or education, practical nursing educator with a Bachelors degree in nursing or education, One nurse administrator with a master’s degree in nursing administration, One nurse clinician with a master’s degree in nursing or in public health; One currently practicing nurse bearing minimum 5 years practice experience, One currently practicing nurse as a delegating nurse in a supervised group living setting. Out of 3 LPN members, one member must be practicing in a long-term care nursing facility.
The Mission of Board of Nursing Maryland is to promote safe, quality and competent health care through licensure, certification, education with the accountability for public protection.
MD Board of Nursing is governed by MD Nurse Practice Act, Health Occupations Article, Section 8. The Board is also authorized by the Nurse Practice Act to regulate the provisions of the law related to nursing field by adopting the regulations and standards for practice of RNs, advance specialty nurses, CNAs, medication technicians, and Electrologists, and LPNs,
The Board is also empowered to receive practice and behavior complaints, which Board review, investigate and impose sanctions on licensee for violating Practice, Nurse Practice Act and the law.
